Introduction: John Setzler

Greetings to everyone :)

Photography is a hobby/profession that I picked up rather late in life. I have been around cameras most of my life because my father was a photographer. I had every chance to get started quite early, but I just had no interest in it back then. I didn't pick up a camera with the intention of being serious about it until early 2002. Since that time, I have discovered that photography is a passion for me.

Back in 2002, I decided that artistic photography and fine art would be my primary interest. Since then, I have continued that idea but I have also been swept into sports photography. In 2004, I decided that I would like to try my hand at sports photography, so I contacted a friend who works for the local newspaper to see if he could get me credentials so I could get on the sidelines at a local high school football game. He wasn't able to do that, but he informed me that the paper was looking for a new photo stringer. He put me in touch with the photo editor, so I interviewed with him and have been providing a lot of sports photography for the paper since that time. I have grown to really enjoy sports photography as well.

Blogging is another hobby that has developed out of my love for photography. I can't really explain why, but I just love to write something to go along with photographs :)

Hello everyone...I think I've said this a couple of other places but I'll say it again...I'm excited to be here! I happened to stumble over this site on a Flickr group I'm in.

I have loved photography ever since I can remember. I entered a photo into an excibition when I was in 7th grade and received an honorable mention! I was so excited my dad gave me his Pentex 35mm camera for Christmas. However, I really never learned to 'use' it. The camera and I soon parted ways and I was with a good camera until 3 years ago. So , now I'm finally learning to shoot the right way.

Last year I "went digital". My step dad, who was a professional photographer, passed away and I inherited his Canon Rebel XT. He was a great inspiration to me and I want to keep his passion alive.

I am currently part of a photography group at Grace Community Church where I have learned so much from the participants. Their experience ranges from folks who have just purchased cameras to professional free lance photographers. It is hard for me to sit down and "read the book" so I am very gratful for the folks who have given me advice and added in helping along the way.

I was reading about CV Camera Club in the Hickory Daily Record, and followed the sites, until I came to yours. I decided to join. I love photography. I am the family member who always is remembering their camera and snapping shots of everyone and everything. Most of all, I want to learn how to take better shots, use web sites, and photo elements5.
I have a old Nikon FE2, excessories. I Olympus, weather resistant, digital, and Minolta 35 mm. I have a Samsung digital/movie camera, (of which I am still learning to operate.)
Thank you for creating your site. Here's to it, for an amateur photographer.
Best regards, Windjammermt
(PS; Are you the Mr. Setzer that has a photo store in downtown Hickory?)

Greetings and welcome...

I'm not the SETZER of SETZER STUDIOS. That was L.A. SETZER and he retired quite a few years back and sold his business. My name is SETZLER :) Thanks for stopping by... The camera club has a website here:

I was delighted to find a group of NC photographers. On other forums that I've particpated in for years, there are always groups that find common interests and I have never seen a group of NC folks.

I've been shooting for years and years (film, then digital) though for over 20 years I was a professional textile artist doing major juried shows (which is, I guess, the reason I'm so uninterested in entering competition with my photography). About 8 years or so ago I was lucky to get into parttime commercial work (furniture and textiles) since I was very conversant with digital work and retired last year so am shooting totally for myself now.

I love the actual process of shooting but also love the post processing and printing. My interest lies more in mono (usually slightly toned b & w) but I do also process a lot in color.

Looking forward to participating here and meeting more NC photographers.

Diane
